What is Support Coordination?
When the road ahead feels overwhelming or lonely, Support Coordination is an NDIS-funded service designed to help you make the most of your plan. It includes connecting you with community and mainstream supports and helping you build strong informal networks. Like many NDIS supports, Support Coordination is about capacity building — helping you grow your confidence, exercise choice and control, and manage your life and supports as independently as possible.
Our role as Support Coordinators
What a Support Coordinator does will look different for everyone, depending on their needs and the level of funding they have. Generally, a Support Coordinator helps you understand your plan, work out what supports you need, and connect with the right services. They help set up service agreements and bookings, watch for issues or risks, and step in when things aren’t working. They also support you throughout your plan and help you prepare for your next review. Most importantly, they work with you to build your confidence and skills so you can do more of this yourself over time.
How to get a Support Coordinator
Funding for Support Coordination is assessed under the same “reasonable and necessary” rules as all other NDIS supports. The NDIA must be confident that a person’s needs go beyond what can be provided by an ECEI or LAC partner. To show the need for Support Coordination, it helps to think about what a coordinator actually does and then gather evidence that shows why that level of help is needed. You can talk to us even before you have funding, and if needed, we can also provide support using personal funding. You don’t have to do this alone.
